Aircraft's new life under water
On January 14, 2006, a retired Boeing 737-200 takes on a new life as an artificial reef when it’s sunk 20 meters deep near Chemainus on Vancouver Island. The airframe was donated to the Artificial Reef Society of B.C. and documented for a Discovery Channel series titled Mega Builders, which is expected to reach 100 million people worldwide. Over 1,000 volunteer hours go into the project, aimed at homing dozens of species of sea life and attracting diving enthusiasts.
