De-icing goes electric
TCA is the first airline in Canada to use electric de-icing of aerodynamic surfaces with the introduction of the Vickers Vanguard to its fleet in 1961. TCA was indeed the first airline in the world to purchase Vanguards. The aircraft’s propeller blades measure 17 feet in diameter, while its four Rolls-Royce engines enable it to reach speeds of 415 miles per hour.
